I have to be brutally honest, my girlfriend’s 98 Camry V6 was one of the most fun cars I’ve driven. All FWD, Slush-boxy, beige-y goodness of it. I never quite figured out what killed it, but I think the timing belt snapped.

I take it you don’t feel like the little Yaris needs defending? ;)

Sometimes you just need something a little more modern than a horse and buggy to get from point A to point B.
Has anyone hooned a horse and buggy?

Okay, I’ll say some “beige” cars arent that beige, but this thing gets no defense:
I drive my Mom’s 2010 EX every now and again. Its incredibly underpowered, has no pedal or steering feel below 55mph (If you can reach 55) and has blind spots the size of time square. This gets no defense

I can’t remember who did it, but I read an article some time last year where some journalists took a V6 Camry to a track day and chopped sports cars all day.

V6 Camry’s are actually incredibly quick. My friend used to borrow his mom’s before he got a car and it could outrun tons of “cool” cars.

It was TTAC and it was just a 4-cylinder lol.

I currently drive my dad’s beige 1999 V6 Camry and while it’s far from the most Jalop car, I’ve had so much fun in it. Unlike the abysmal 2010 Corolla I drove for behind the wheel, my friend’s 2007 Honda Accord, and my mom’s 2007 Honda Odyssey, the Camry has good amounts of torque right off the line which makes it rather adept at beating ricers out of stoplights. Despite the super light steering, there is more feel than a Chrysler 200 rental car and believe it or not a Volkswagen eos. The steering coupled with the soft suspension, tires that actually grip (no low rolling resistance malarky) with useable sidewalls, and slush box makes it a fantastic, almost land barge-like highway cruiser. I’ve never been in a BMW that rides smoother and never sat in a modern car of a similar price point that has less tire noise.

My sister’s 02 Accord was the easiest car to work on ever. It belongs to my cousins son now and it chugs along like a champ still. It has aftermarket brakes and nice wheels and tires now tho. Drives very good

An ex girlfriend of mine had a 2010 Corolla S. Making the tires screech around turns was suuuuuper fun :] She had a blast doing it as well

That CRV can reach 55 and beyond lol come on now. If you can’t feel anything, it sounds like a personal problem lol. Though, new AMG’s and Rapides might blow your mind on how very light they are as well. Good thing enthusiasts make up less than 5% of all our Volvo, Merc, Lotus, and Aston customers
![]() 05/12/2015 at 22:27 |

Hells Yeah!
![]() 05/12/2015 at 22:28 |

Yes, for some reason they ADORE Camrys.
![]() 05/12/2015 at 22:30 |

The 2010 CRV weighs 3800 lbs (ish) and has 185hp. It’ll go above 55, but It’ll take a long time to get there. I was driving it to Keystone, CO a while back. Passing on the Highway in that thing is frightening. You mash on the go pedal and there is almost nothing. Nice Vtec sounds though
![]() 05/12/2015 at 22:32 |

Let’s race against my A6. I am positive the CRV can beat my car lol. My friend’s CRV is a 4cyl. K24 maybe?... Yeah, it can (slowly) blow the doors off my wagon lol

Why does El_ULY defend and protect the regulars and beige:
“Because he can take it. Because he’s not a hero. He’s a silent guardian; a watchful protector; a Beige Knight.”

And this gem:
![]() 05/12/2015 at 22:39 |

Your A6 will most likely beat it. Also, the pedal feel is atrocious. Every time I get into it I know Im gonna jerk the brakes, I try to correct it, but the car still lurches forward with the first brake. Its incredibly numb
![]() 05/12/2015 at 22:40 |

Don’t let goofy ads spoil a car buddy. You are smarter than that dude be real
![]() 05/12/2015 at 22:43 |

I had one as a rental. Seats were uncomfortable and the plastics were cheap.
![]() 05/12/2015 at 22:46 |

Sounds like my Audi A6, W210, and e36’s i’ve owned lol. Don’t be too critical and compare everything to a luxury sports sedan. Hell, i wish i can afford a cheap economy car lol. Nobody drives along smug as hell about thwir “interior materials” lol. I rented a Kia Rio sedan once. It had prwtty horrid seats yes, but on a wet Charleston night with a friend of mine and the trac OFF, giddy up you goofy car!

To give credit to Denver, he is at a high altitude, where it would be significantly slower than it would be in Houston.
![]() 05/12/2015 at 22:53 |

Well honestly I sat in a used Versa that was beat up beyond belief and it was more comfortable to sit in than the Altima.
Although the Altima did have retro-style velour. That seemed kinda cool.

I hit triple digits (in English units) on a regular basis with my Camry. Sure, you could do that in a Camaro, but who do you think the cops will stop first?
![]() 05/12/2015 at 22:57 |
|
A 2010 car can adapt a lot better. In Mexico DF (which is way higher) cars run just fine.
![]() 05/12/2015 at 22:59 |

I’ve always wanted to sit in the Zero Gravit seats. Always wonder if those were nice. I may je a bit spoiled from all the Volvos at work tho lol
![]() 05/12/2015 at 23:00 |
|
Lol that’s true. We hit 135 easy whem my brother had his 08 4cyl
![]() 05/12/2015 at 23:05 |

Oh gosh I remember how easy it was to break traction on those low rolling resistance tires. If I simply looked at the throttle funny on an someone’s driveway with quarter lock those tires would give out. Unfortunately in behind the wheel I never got to exploit the car.
![]() 05/12/2015 at 23:09 |
|
I remembered reading somewhere (possibly Oppo) that if gravity makes seats comfortable (you press down into them), then zero gravity is therefore the opposite and is uncomfortable. (using logic of the internet)
Are Volvo seats really as comfortable as they are made out to be? The only times I’ve sat in a Volvo were at auto shows for a couple minutes.
![]() 05/12/2015 at 23:10 |

lol yup! I couldn’t spin the tire on wet grass in my e36 325i. That little Crayola S fed my tire spinning fix
![]() 05/12/2015 at 23:13 |

Lol, sounds like an awesome OPPO explination. They are very nice in the XC70, in R-Design cars, and oddly enough, the ones with sport seats. Volvo uses a couple medical specialists when designing the seats. Yay old but active old people!
![]() 05/12/2015 at 23:15 |

My fav tho are the seats in the IS-F. When theu first came out, i had one with an over heating issue. After the fix, my shop foreman told me todrive it all weekend to make sure it was good. Best weekend ever!
![]() 05/12/2015 at 23:21 |

Nice. Love the IS F. It was my first experience to true speed.
My favorite seats are from either the Hyundai Sonata or HS250h. The Hyundai’s are supportive, but the HS has really cushy seats.

They’re all hire cars from what I’ve heard

Good on you EU for taking your stand and defending it logically.

Seriously!? Not theirs?!
![]() 05/13/2015 at 07:59 |

Yeah, that’s what I hear. There’s aren’t many legitimate news stories about it to be 100% certain, but it would definitely explain why they’re almost always white and hire car-ish..

My mother has a 4cyl Camry. It is surprisingly quick off the line for something of that engine type, and mass of the car - but I am still not certain what the steering wheel is connected to.
The driver matters more than the car. Put me in an F1 car, and it would be laughably sad, while Vettel in my fintail could school the average Ferrari driver.
![]() 05/13/2015 at 10:59 |
|
Lol i would panic in an F1 car :]
You do know what the steering wheel is connected to. When you hit a bump, you feel it. When you turn, you know what direction the wheels are. If you are drifting slightly, you make to correction. Enthusiasts can’t expect a modern car to “feel” like an old EG hatchback without power steering. I am around high end sportscars all day. Enthusiasts make up less than 5% of our clients. They are not making cars for us lol :] The steering wheel on my Ford Escape feels no different than an AMG or Rapide. I always know what the car I am driving is doing on any road and so do you. Not as much on an eco car yes, but you didn’t completely feel nothing and crash your car. The defense is more on total douchery, motoring supremacy, and full out hateful bashing of normal drivers (aka pretty much everyone on the road) And all that hate for the goofiest and most childish reasons
![]() 05/13/2015 at 13:39 |
|
I think the Camry wheel is connected to a box which sends a telegraph to the steering rack, from there, the car steers. There’s the typical delay associated with sending such a message :)
Normal drivers talk and text while “driving”, they often fail to signal, they are often in the wrong lane, they like to merge at 41 mph, etc. The normal driver is nothing to applaud or defend. Enthusiasts do this too, but I will wager less (typical douchebro in an M car isn’t a real enthusiast IMO).
![]() 05/13/2015 at 14:31 |
|
Well it’s simple math. Regular people in regular cars vs. enthusiasts in performance cars. Both don’t have good records
![]() 05/13/2015 at 15:54 |
|
And there are many regular and lowest common denominator drivers in performance cars, and enthusiasts in regular cars.
Still, smoke and fire are related. It seems much if not most of the time, the slow timid merger is a Camrollaius or RX, the oblivious phone holder is a Range Rover, the non-signaler wears a roundel, etc.
![]() 05/13/2015 at 20:24 |

It is tough work. But you can’t love all cars. Especially if a car is manufactured with no effort for an adequate product. All of those Yugo’s? Pacers? Gremlins? You think theres a defense for those cars?
The Camry? I still call it an appliance. That doesn’t mean its not capable of driving down a road or a track.
And they all should have known the car would understeer before getting on that track
. :P
![]() 05/13/2015 at 20:37 |
|
nothing is more jalop that a Yugos, Pacers, and Grimlins. See the definition of Jalopy. Also, it is suuuuper fun making the tires screetch on a little eco car lol. Besides, nothing oversteers more than my A6 Quattro. But man it’s fun when it does. When it is a serious track attack, duh you’re not going for an eco box. But under normal non track situation and not in a enthusiast car (aka most of the time for normal people) it is hella fun!
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think your missing the point. Really bad cars are good in a way. It’s the mediocre ones we don’t like.
